How Does Alarm Monitoring Work?
With DFW Security, our certified operators are trained to handle your alarm quickly and professionally. When an alarm is triggered at your home, the security system sends us a signal. Our operator then attempts to contact you, either over the loudspeaker on your smart security system, or on the phone number you provided if you have a basic alarm system, to make sure the alarm is not false. If no one answers, or they cannot give the correct password, our operator then dispatches the police. (A smart security system ensures a faster police response, since the alarm can be verified by listening in at the location.) In case of a fire or medical emergency, our monitoring center will dispatch the fire department or ambulance, and your emergency contact list will be notified of the situation.
There are 2 types of alarm monitoring: landline and wireless. Security systems can either use a standard home phone line (landline) to send signals to the monitoring station, or communicate via cellular or internet transmission (wireless). Internet monitoring is not recommended due to variations in service and frequent outages. Landline monitoring works great with POTS (plain old telephone service) lines and has the lowest price, but can easily be cut outside the house by a burglar, and isn’t compatible with many alternative phone services like cable or internet companies provide.
